Scottish Destination Elopement at Forter Castle

I’m not sure if you know this but amongst many other things, Scotland is beautiful. Breathtakingly beautiful, in fact. Couple those views with the historic, one-of-a-kind venues and the talent of the wonderful locals, and you can quite quickly see why people often choose Scotland as their elopement destination!

Kelsey and Jordan were one such couple who decided just that, and I had the pleasure of assisting them in their destination elopement planning. They live in Portland, Oregon but wanted to get married in Scotland because they love Outlander – they’d never even visited Scotland before! With such symbolism surrounding their location choice, it was mega important that every detail of the day was perfect, but, as it turns out, flights from Portland to Scotland are a tad pricey so they needed a woman on the ground here in bonnie Scotland! Shetland-born and Shetland-bred, I love to help couples experience the magic of Scotland for their wedding day. Planning a wedding from far away can be hard, and so having someone who knows the area and the culture like the back of her hand can be a huge help.

Kelsey and Jordan chose the amazing Forter Castle, a historic castle on the border of Perthshire, for their big day. It’s nestled in the Highlands with stunning views in every direction! Luckily for their guests, they took full advantage of this serene setting by opting for an outdoor ceremony. It was a super intimate affair, with a close-knit group of 7 guests sat on pews in front of them, and the famous rolling Scottish hills as their backdrop.

Another part of being a destination elopement planner is sharing my little black book of creative geniuses who can be trusted to bring a wedding day to life, and Kelsey and Jordan’s wedding was a total A-team of wedding suppliers. The lovely Mel at Briar Rose Design created Kelsey’s beautiful bouquet in all of its heather-toned glory, whilst Pamper and Polish created a gorgeous bridal look with a half-updo for Kelsey, as well as a Viking inspired plait for groom Jordan. For their dinner, Kelsey and Jordan treated their guests to a broccoli starter, salmon entrée and a cheese assortment masterfully curated by No 9 Chef Services and followed by a delicious Taystful cake.

And to give them and their guests the full Scottish experience, we also arranged for a piper to come down and play - when in Rome, as they say! This was the perfect way of ensuring a nod to our beautiful surroundings, without making it the overly thistle-and-tartan bearing elopement that they knew they didn’t want.

We also had the wonderful Eleven Six on hand to capture the beautiful moments, the beautiful weather, and the beautiful people – take a look below!
