Why Scottish Castle Weddings are Incredible
Let’s consider why having your wedding at a Scottish castle is a great idea. From beautiful interiors to epic exteriors Scottish castles have their own charm for you to fall in love with.
Scotland has the best wedding venues around. For sure, we have plenty of traditional-style hotel venues. However, Scotland excels when it comes to unusual wedding venues. From minimalist industrial spaces to blank canvas barns, we have it covered. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when it comes to nailing down a venue style. I’m going to be quite specific and focus on one type of venue: the Scottish castle. Scotland’s countryside is punctured with historic ruins and beautifully restored castles. In fact, there’s no escaping them. If you decide this is a route you’d like to pursue, you’re going to be spoiled for choice.
HISTORY
Our castles are packed with history. They speak of bygone eras and are a window to the past. They’re where lords and ladies sat in waiting for their kings and queens. Some of them date as far back as the 13th century. Impressive stuff especially for folks traveling here from a country with a historical background that’s not quite as rich. To feel like you're part of hundreds of years of history is mind-blowing. You’re adding a level of grandness in a way most other venues can’t achieve.
SPECTACULAR BACKDROPS
Scottish castles are fabulous inside and out. There’s turrets, tapestries, thrones, great halls, banqueting rooms, moats and walled gardens on offer. You might settle on a castle that has all of these features! Photographers love to get outdoors with their couples, where possible and castle exteriors can be quite dramatic, whatever the season. Think blooming snowdrops and bluebells in late winter and early spring, vibrant colours in the summer, a tapestry of golds, oranges and reds in autumn and impressive wonderlands in winter.
RIDICULOUSLY ROMANTIC
For many people, castles are the epitome of romance and the perfect setting for a wedding. Castles conjure the idea of kings riding out into battle, extravagant feasts, jousting tournaments as well as other untold battles and victories. These rich, historical places have the ultimate pull over our imaginations. There’s something otherworldly about them. They belong to another time. Isn’t there a link between that and the eternal, transcendent nature of love?
EXCLUSIVITY
Knowing your chosen venue is off-limits to the rest of the world is an important consideration. It’s unlikely that you’ll want every person and their dog gawping at you. It’s more likely you want to enjoy your wedding celebrations in the company of your people.
FLEXIBILITY
Most castles are quite large. Hence why they’re castles! You’ll most likely find options for where to hold your ceremony. Of course, this will be numbers dependent. At the very least, there’s likely to be an outdoor choice, perhaps several, as well as a couple, again perhaps several, indoor options. This is great. We all know Scottish weather can be unpredictable at best. Having a Plan A, B and C can be reassuring with climate uncertainty. Plus, it’s nice to have a choice.
